School Information
Admissions
As we are such a small school, comprising of 2 teachers and 15 children, it can be difficult to host lots of visits so we have identified monthly open mornings when we can show people around. You will be given a tour of the premises, be able to pick up ideas and ask questions about our ethos and methods. We are happy to share our practice, fundraising ideas, strengths and difficulties. We would appreciate it if you could arrange childcare if necessary as we try to keep disruption to a minimum.
Due to current Covid-19 restrictions we are unable to offer any open mornings at the present time.
If, however, you have any questions or would like a virtual tour please contact the office and we will facilitate this.
*Please email if you would like to attend one of our open mornings.
Curriculum
Fundamentally, like any other educational establishment, our goal is to ensure that children experience a broad and balanced ‘diet’ through which they make good or better progress, in all areas of their development. Our challenge has been, and continues to be, to find the best, most efficient and effective way to do this.
Our evolving curriculum is based on the work of educationalist Ferre Laever who has identified nine areas of development, or developmental domains to focus on.
They are: artistic expression; emotional health; fine motor development; gross motor development; language and communication; logical and mathematical thinking; understanding the physical world; understanding the social world; self-organisation and entrepreneurship. In addition, we have added health and lifestyle.
These domains cover and include the key subject areas that form The National Curriculum and compliment Howard Gardener’s Multiple Intelligences or ‘Smart Areas’ which The Treehouse has a strong allegiance to. They fit perfectly, and indeed, enhance our developmentally based approach to teaching and learning. Furthermore, the domains are broad enough to accommodate any future changes that we may wish, or are required to make in the future.
Green School
Our curriculum and daily routines are designed to raise children’s awareness of the value of resources, the environment and the contribution we can make to creating a more sustainable future.
The school is situated in the centre of the village, to enable staff and children to walk or cycle to school and access local resources on foot or via public transport. Children take responsibility for monitoring the amount of food waste we generate and the school’s energy usage.
In addition we are in the process of building an eco school, with features that will significantly reduce the school’s carbon footprint.
Healthy Lifestyles
It is essential to nurture children’s emotional and physical health as we believe they are vital for a healthy, happy future.
The development of healthy lifestyles is woven into our curriculum and daily routines. A strong emphasis on helping children to believe in themselves and relate to others, alongside regular exercise, is encouraged both during and beyond the school day. To achieve this all children participate in a regular physical activity which ranges from swimming, running and walking to school. Further examples include the children’s involvement in growing food, cooking and eating together.
Meet our Staff and Trustees
We are fortunate enough to have a team of committed, hardworking Staff, Trustees and Consultants who bring their expertise to all areas of our practice.
Ofsted
The Treehouse School was inspected by Ofsted in May 2019.
"Pupils behaviour is good. They demonstrate positive attitudes to learning."
"Pupils confidence and resilience as learners is developed well so that they are well prepared for the next stage of their education."

"Expectations are high and pupils make good progress from their starting points."
"Staff and pupils enjoy positive relationships. This helps to ensure a typically productive and happy environment where pupils feel well supported to succeed."

Performance Info
We are interested in the progress children make in all areas of their development whether it be social, physical, creative or intellectual development.
We were delighted that last years leavers made significant progress in all areas of their development, achieving in excess of 200% from their starting points.
